UNESCO elects five Brazilian attractions as intangible heritage

Brazil has 38 artistic events that were considered by the Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) as Intangible Heritage or Intangible Assets. Classification is intended to life expressions and traditions that communities, groups and individuals around the world receive from their ancestors and pass on to their descendants.

Of these, five are inscribed in UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.They are knowledge, celebrations and forms of expressions. 

Capoeira 

Originated during slavery, capoeira was developed as a social rite and solidarity among the slaves. The strategy to deal with the control and violence is a cultural event that brings together singing, tap the instruments, dance, moves, game, play, symbols and African rituals. In capoeira, the teachers, trained in the tradition, transmit knowledge to others. Today, one of the Brazilian identity symbols is practiced in over 160 countries.

frevo

The artistic expression of the Recife carnival is a musical form, choreography and poetry rooted in Pernambuco. The urban music genre emerged in the late nineteenth century, the carnival. Military bands and their rivalries, the freed slaves, the capoeiristas, the new working class and the new urban spaces frevo defined the configuration characterized by the play of arms and legs and frenzied dance. The artistic expression plays an important role in the formation of Brazilian music.

Samba de Roda
