Agricultural Production Reaches R $ 516.4 Billion In 2016

The forecast for the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) for this year is $ 516.4 billion. The figures take into account the turnover of the main agricultural products in July. Of the total, the crops represent R $ 338 billion and livestock, 178.4 billion. The data was released, on Thursday (11) by the Department of Agricultural Policy (SPA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).

Products

Among the products had improved sales performance are bananas (33.4%), potatoes (26.1%), cocoa (13.3%), coffee (13.4%), beans (11, 2%), wheat (29.6%), apple (11.9%) and soybean (3%).

"These results are due in some cases, the price increase, due to the production decrease and in others, the growth of the quantity produced," says the general coordinator of Studies and Analysis of SPA, José Gasques.

The soybean VBP growth occurred because of a 3.9% increase in the price, even with a decrease of 0.9% in production this year. "In the café, there is a combination of better crop expectations and higher prices for arabica and conilon. This can also be observed in wheat, "said Gasques.

Despite the high number of products, the total VBP had a decrease of 2.3% compared to last year. The main reason was the fall in crop yields due to weather problems (rain, drought and high temperatures).

Falling prices

In the group of products that have lower values compared to 2015 are tomatoes (-47.2%), tobacco (-27.5%), grapes (-19.4%), rice (-17.3%), cassava (-15.6%), orange (-12.7%), pork (13%) and milk (-10.7%).

Index by location

By region, the largest VBP remains South (R $ 151 billion), followed by the Midwest (R $ 143.2 billion), Southeast (R $ 138.8 billion), Northeast (R $ 45.5 billion) and North (R $ 29.8 billion).

Among the states, Mato Grosso leads with R $ 72.4 billion. Then comes São Paulo (R $ 70.6 billion), Paraná (R $ 66.3 billion), Minas Gerais (R $ 57.6 billion) and Rio Grande do Sul (R $ 56.4 billion). Together, they account 62.6% of the gross value of agricultural production in the country.
