Blairo Maggi to Meet with United States Secretary of Agriculture to Discuss Resumption of Brazilian Meat Exports
Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi meets with US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue in Washington on Monday to discuss the resumption of Brazilian beef exports to the United States.
According to the executive secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Eumar Novacki, the measures taken by the pulp and technical explanations already sent to the United States will serve to reopen the North American market to Brazilian exporters.
Novacki is in Switzerland to attend a Codex Alimentarius meeting to support the Brazilian candidature for the organization's presidency and hold bilateral meetings with trade partners, defending the sanity of Brazilian products.
In Geneva, he met with the US ambassador to the United States, Theodore Allegra, and detailed the steps taken by the ministry regarding the foot-and-mouth disease reactions detected by the US health-care area.
One of the measures was the determination of the meatpackers that fresh cuts of meat (place of application of the vaccine) should only be in the form of cuts, buckets, baits or strips, in order to easily identify possible problems.
The Secretary also highlighted the recent revision of the Brazilian Health Regulations (RIISPOA), which updated standards followed by employees and companies, "mitigating a lot of corruption risks", and the Ministry's Ethics-Focused Compliance Program, which should be Completed by January of next year.
