The Development Company of the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valleys (Codevasf) signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Maranhão to develop sustainable projects in fisheries and aquaculture communities in municipalities.

Initially, fifteen of the community type fish farming kits will be deployed, three in the city of Grajaú, two in Joselândia, three in Magallanes town of Almeida, another three in Pastos Bons, two in Tuntum and two in Pindaré-Mirim.

The Secretary of Agriculture of Maranhao, Márcio Honaiser, said he hoped the agreement will result in increasing the family income and the development of the local economy.

Investments by Codevasf to promote fish farming in Maranhão now total more than R $ 700 thousand, which were for the purchase of 240 net-tanks, 20 aluminum boats, 20 outboard engines, support equipment production and inputs.

In addition to the equipment, they were also applied approximately R $ 215 thousand in the recovery of the fish farm ponds and catchment and drainage systems of the Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA) in São Raimundo das Mangabeiras (MA).
