Decree of the government reduces PIS / Cofins rate on ethanol

Taxes

Change in taxation generates a reduction of R $ 0.08 per liter of fuel. Rules for gasoline and diesel were not changed

The government has reduced part of the tax on ethanol. On Friday (28), a decree signed by the President of the Republic, Michel Temer, changed the value of the Social Integration Program (PIS) and the Contribution for Social Security Financing (Cofins) on fuel. The decrease was R $ 0.08 per liter in ethanol sold by the distributor.

This change, however, only applies to ethanol. Taxation for gasoline and diesel remains the same. Last week, when it announced the increase in PIS / Cofins on fuels, the government stipulated a price of R $ 0.1494. In the decree, the value dropped to R $ 0.1109.

The IRS confirmed that last week's increase was more than allowed. According to the institution, the law states that the PIS / Cofins charge on ethanol can not be greater than 9.25% of the average consumer price in the last 12 months.
