Product sales reached US $ 4.72 billion in the month, equivalent to 48.8% of the total shipped by the sector
Soybeans led agribusiness exports in May. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply show that sales of the product reached US $ 4.72 billion in the month, equivalent to 48.8% of the total shipped by the sector.
This performance was driven by shipments of soybeans in grain, which totaled 10.96 million tons, with revenues of US $ 4.06 billion. According to the ministry, the volume shipped in May this year was record for any month.
Soybean production in Brazil grew 18.5 million tons in the last harvest. The country also increased exports by almost 4 million tons, from 30.8 million tons exported between January and May 2016 to 34.8 million tons in the same period this year.
Trade balance
Also in May 2017, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached US $ 9.68 billion and surpassed the value recorded in May last year by 12.8%. With these results, the trade balance of the sector is positive at US $ 8.38 billion.
