Pulled by building materials, clothing, personal items and books and newspapers, retail sales rebounded in June and presented a performance better than expected by analysts.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the increase was 0.1% compared to May - the financial market projected a decrease of 0.4%. This result is still higher compared to the same month since 2013, when it was registered an increase of 0.4%.
Three segments influenced sales in the group classified as restricted retail. The institute reported that textiles, clothing and footwear rose by 0.7% in the monthly comparison.
The positive list follows with personal and household goods (+ 0.8%) and books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (+ 0.6%). In the group classified as extended retail trade, construction material recorded increase of 1.3%.
Sales by region of the country
Regionally, the data also brought favorable performances. Of the 27 states, retail sales grew by 13%.
The IBGE not yet released the full regional data, but said the Paraná had the highest variation in the volume of sales, up 7.4%.
With these positive performances in sales, trade revenue rose 0.9% between May and June. In the year, accumulated gain of 4.5%, and accumulated 12 months, 3.4% advance.
