Production recorded growth of 0.6% in comparison with the same period last year
With the recovery of the economy, industrial production begins to show signs of recovery. According to a survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics ( IBGE ), in the quarter ended in March, there was a 0.6% growth of the sector.
With the crisis installed in recent years, the last positive result in the first quarter was in 2013, when industrial production grew 2.1%. Since then, the sector has sourced losses in a row.
Since last year, with reforms and measures implemented by the government, this has started a reversal. Gradually, the losses were turning into positive results. The performance of the sector is still below the ideal and remains close to that observed in 2008, but the expectation is of full recovery in the coming months and years.
IBGE research reveals that growth is more widespread among the various industrial sectors. In the quarter ended in March, there were positive results in two of the four major economic categories, in 15 of the 26 sectors, in 47 of the 79 groups and in 53% of the 805 products surveyed.
Vehicles and mineral extraction
Among the activities surveyed, the ones that gave the greatest contribution to the positive result were the extractive industries (8.2%) and motor vehicles, trailers and bodies (11.5%).
Other contributions came from computer equipment (18.3%), apparel and accessories (8.0%), metallurgy (1.9%), rubber and plastic products (2.7%), Textile products (6.2%) and machinery and equipment (2.0%).
The industrial result was also positive in the comparison between March and the same month of the previous year, registered advance of 1.1%. Even with these advances, the industry still needs to move further to fully recover.
