IMF director says Brazil shows signs of economic improvement

Christine Lagarde said that the emerging economies will continue to contribute with more than three quarters of global growth in 2016 and 2017

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, ranked Brazil and Russia as countries that are "showing some signs of improvement after a period of severe contraction."

The evaluation was made during an analysis of the global economy, on Wednesday (28) during a lecture at school Kellogg Management at Northwestern University in the United States.

Lagarde said the world economy still has weaknesses, but added that the prospects of emerging and developing economies "deserve cautious optimism."

She also said that the emerging economies leading the global recovery from the financial crisis of 2008, will continue contributing over three quarters of global growth this year and also in 2017.

Chinese growth

The IMF director noted that China, which is one of the pillars of this growth in emerging economies, has been working in recent years to balance the expansion of its industry as the service area and has reoriented its focus to domestic consumption. In this process, the Chinese have maintained annual growth rate of 6% per year.
