Objective is to improve the country's competitiveness, which today is among the last in the ranking.

The Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Marcelo Guaranys, opened on Tuesday (27/8) the seminar Modernization of Regulation in Brazil: International and National Perspective. During the morning, at the Serzedello Corrêa Institute in Brasilia, debates were held between foreign and Brazilian experts on best practices in the area of ​​regulation and the evolution of the regulatory system in the country. 

“Increasing productivity needs regulatory improvement. Brazil is the penultimate country (140th out of 141) in the World Economic Forum's global competitiveness ranking in terms of state regulation, ”said Guaranys. “It's not an honorable position. It was years to build this position, which we now have to fix. ” 

The Executive Secretary drew attention to the improvement, in addition to the regulatory agencies, also in other regulatory bodies. He also stressed the importance of the changes reaching all levels of government: municipal, state and federal. 

At the event British Ambassador to Brazil Vijay Rangarajan reiterated the UK's support for the country's immediate entry into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). According to him, adherence is important for Brazil and even for the OECD itself, as it is functioning as a forum for cooperation on development issues, which includes regulation. 

Also attending the opening of the seminar were the president of the Federal Court of Audit (TCU), José Múcio Monteiro, and the executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio. The event was developed under the Prosperity Fund - a British co-operation fund aimed at financing welfare and prosperity, as long as the projects are sustainable - with the support of TCU and the Dom Cabral Foundation.
