DLA Combined Federal Campaign Car and Bike Show raises almost $1,200

A car and bike show held at the McNamara Headquarters Complex Nov. 12 raised almost $1,200 for the Combined Federal Campaign charity fund.

More than 30 cars, trucks and motorcycles, ranging from classic to modern, were featured at the Defense Logistics Agency’s CFC Car and Bike Show.Attendees browsed and admired the interiors and exteriors of the customized vehicles in the complex’s parking lot before voting for their favorites in both car and motorcycle categories.

DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek, who entered his own 2003 Harley Davidson Road King into the show, handed out trophies for first, second and third place winners at an awards ceremony later in the day.

“This was all in support of the CFC,” he said. “Whether it’s got two wheels, three or four, you brought them and just had some fun. That’s what it’s all about. It’s about bringing them into the parking lots, walking around and seeing some neat vehicles. So thanks to everybody that participated, thanks to everybody that was out there walking around and thanks to everybody that made a donation.”

Like several of the other competitors, DLA Human Resources employee Albert Bouet got his 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera “all cleaned up” the day before the show.

“It’s my toy,” he said. “I love it.”

DLA Information Operations employee Jerry Lelansky entered his prized 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe.

“I’ve liked Corvettes since the mid-1970s,” he said. “I like the lines, the color. I just saw it, and I had to have it. I drive it once a week to work. It’s my therapy, which is also my license plate.”

Kerry Webster, a nurse coordinator in the DLA Occupational Health Unit, and Darin O’Shields entered their customized 2008 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Peace Officer Special Edition motorcycle. They take the bike, nicknamed Ol’ Blu’, out every chance they get, O’Shields said.

“We ride all the time,” O’Shields said. “We’ve done 25,000 miles in the last 20 months together. It’s not uncommon for us to leave Friday when she gets off work and come back Sunday night in time for her to take a shower and come back here.”

Winners in the car category were:

-- Army Maj. Michael Jordan, DLA Energy, 1st Place for his 1968 Pontiac GTO.

-- Air Force Capt. Devin Long, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, 2nd Place for his 2013 Tesla Model S.

-- Phillip Anderson, Defense Contract Audit Agency, 3rd Place for his 1976 Cadillac Eldorado.

Winners in the bike category were:

-- Kerry Webster, DLA Occupational Health Unit, 1st Place for her 2008 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Peace Officer Special Edition.

-- John Leckner, DLA Installation Support, 2nd Place for his 2012 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited.

-- Randy Taft, DLA Protocol, 3rd Place for his 2004 Harley Davidson Trike.

As of Nov. 12, DLA Headquarters has raised more than $128,000 toward its national capital area CFC goal of $321,000. Employees have until Dec. 15 to submit their CFC pledges before the campaign ends.

Upcoming CFC events include a Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run Nov. 19, a silent auction Dec. 9-10, the “DLA Has Talent” show Dec. 9 and the CFC Chili Cook-off Dec. 15.
