The target for the "My House, My Life" program will be expanded to 2.4 million housing units to be built by 2014. The announcement was made today (April 12) by President Rousseff. She said that the government is working on the distribution of homes by income bracket and by municipality.
"This is a program that has to give priority to those who need it most. That is the view of this government. The "My House, My Life" program needs to operate where there are those without a home and living in poverty. That is what "My House, My Life" is: an instrument that will increasingly allow us to transform Brazil", said the President.
During the day, she announced the 2,582 municipalities with a population of up to 50,000 inhabitants selected for the program. The Federal government will invest R$ 2.8 billion in these locations to construct 107,000 homes for families with monthly incomes up to R$ 1,600. The goal, according to the Minister of Planning, Miriam Belchior, is to construct 220,000 homes for this income bracket in small municipalities. She also stated that the Federal government has built 815,000 homes for the population, which represents 54% of the housing units contracted by My House, My Life.
