Midwest had the highest number of cattle among the major regions, with 33.8% of the national share, according to the IBGE
The cattle herd in Brazil reached 215.2 million heads last year, an increase of 1.3% compared to 2014 and a record.The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and were released on Thursday (29).
The survey also revealed that the effective of chickens (roosters, hens, pullets, chickens, chicks and chicks) reached 1.3 billion animals, an increase of 0.9%. The production of eggs increased 1.0% in 2015. The swine herd, with 40.3 million heads in 2015, increased by 6.3%.
The Midwest had the highest number of cattle among the major regions, with 33.8% of the national share. The data show that there was growth in the North (2.9%), Central West (2.1%) and Southeast (1.4%). In the South Region, effective remained stable, and only in the Northeast there was a decrease (-0.9%).
Municipalities with more cattle
According to IBGE, the municipalities with more heads were Sao Felix do Xingu (PA), Corumbá (MS), Ribas do Rio Pardo (MS), Cáceres (MT) and Maraba (PA). Among the 20 municipalities with the largest, 13 were located in the Midwest, five in the north and two in the south of the country.
