Brasilia University Hospital Prepares Confederations Cup Plan

Brasilia University Hospital (known as "HUB") has begun final preparations for the opening of the Confederations Cup on June 15. The hospital is part of a group of hospitals that will provide medical support during the single match in the competition that is to take place in the Federal District: Brazil vs. Japan. The institution started work toward creating a crisis cabinet, indicating team coordinators and drafting a response plan to assist spectators.

According to Sâmara Farias, HUB Deputy Director of Care Services, the hospital management is working on a plan for major events. During the Confederations Cup, HUB will be a reference for yellow and green risk (urgent and not urgent) patients.

José Bonifácio Alvin, Coordinator of the World Cup Health Group, set up under the Federal District Department of Health, said that all network hospitals will be on hand during the Confederations Cup and the World Cup in 2014. "HUB and the Asa Norte Regional Hospital (HRAN) will be references for medical care. Cases of cerebrovascular accident (stroke), trauma and heart attack will be referred to the Base Hospital. All children should receive medical assistance from the Brasilia Maternal and Child Hospital," said Alvin.

For the opening day of the Confederations Cup, with the match between Brazil and Japan, HUB will reserve 30% of its beds for any emergencies that may occur in the stadium or on the Esplanade of Ministries, where, along with stages for shows, big screens will be installed to broadcast all matches in the competition.

Alvin also said that during the events, the entire planned capacity of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) will be on the streets of the Federal District, ready to provide assistance during any incident. "Teachers, health professionals and students in HUB will be involved in this comprehensive care plan," Sâmara concluded.
