Belden Inc. completes acquisition of Brazil’s Poliron Cabos Elétricos Especiais Ltda

Belden Inc. has completed its acquisition of Brazil’s Poliron Cabos Elétricos Especiais Ltda. Belden is a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission critical applications. Poliron Cabos Elétricos Especiais Ltda is a leading Brazilian cable company. The acquisition is an all cash transaction valued at approximately $30 million.

Privately held Poliron has an established brand reputation and proven experience for product quality across one of the most complete lines of industrial cables in the region. In addition, Belden intends to leverage Poliron's manufacturing footprint to improve its cost and lead-times for its existing products purchased in Brazil and other countries in the region.

John Stroup, President and Chief Executive Officer of Belden Inc, said the acquisition allows the company to be a legitimate player in one of the most attractive emerging markets. Stroup stated that in addition to the long-term growth opportunities, Belden is excited to participate in the near term investments in support of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Belden funded the acquisition with cash on hand and expects the acquisition to be break-even in fiscal year 2011.

In July 2004, Belden merged with Cable Design Technologies Corp to create Belden Inc. Belden is one of the largest U.S. based manufacturers of high-speed electronic cables and focuses on products for the specialty electronics and data networking markets, including connectivity.

The firm designs, manufactures, and markets cable, connectivity, and networking products in markets including industrial automation, enterprise, transportation, infrastructure, and consumer electronics.

Belden has approximately 6,600 employees, and provides value for industrial automation, enterprise, education, healthcare, entertainment and broadcast, sound and security, transportation, infrastructure, consumer electronics and other industries. Belden has manufacturing capabilities in North America, Europe, and Asia, and a market presence in nearly every region of the world.

The firm has embarked on a strategy aimed at strengthening its position, growing the business and expanding its reach. To grow the business, Belden is pursuing organic and inorganic opportunities in fast-growing regions.

Additionally, through its Market Delivery System, it identifies attractive markets; improves channel and end customer relationships, and creates awareness for Belden products. To expand the business, Belden has transformed itself from a cable company to a signal transmission solutions provider with a complete product portfolio including connectivity and networking.

Belden's strategy is managing the product portfolio to increase revenue in higher margin and strategically important products.
