Managed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the Amazon Fund closed the year 2012 with 36 approved projects, totaling R$ 439.8 million. Of this amount, R$ 134.7 million are meant for activities related to sustainable production, R$ 154.6 million for institutional development of environmental agencies, R$ 45.8 million for environmental and land regularization and R$ 104.8 million for scientific and technological development.
The amount paid in 2012 totalized R$ 71.2 million. With this result, since the beginning of its operation in 2009, the Amazon Fund has disbursed a total of R$ 142.1 million. Disbursements follow the physico-financial schedules of supported projects with implementation periods ranging from one to five years.
Among the results obtained, we highlight the creation of 135 thousand square kilometers of new Protected Areas (PAs), the land regularization of 800 farms and sustainable production projects in 2200 property. In all, there are already 560,700 square kilometers of protected areas with environmental management or strengthening control of territory. In addition, R$62.7 million is destinated for projects against fires forest and illegal burning.
Throughout its execution, the projects supported by the Amazon Fund will enable 4,700 persons to practice sustainable economic activities and pay 12,600 families for environmental services provided. About 7 thousand Indians will also be benefit.
All projects are aligned to the overall objective of the Amazon Fund; deforestation reduction with sustainable development. The set of proposed actions should enable greater control, knowledge and rational use of natural resources in the Amazon region.
