Agfa HealthCare acquires all the shares of leading Brazil healthcare IT company, WPD

Agfa HealthCare, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT solutions, announces today that it has reached an agreement to acquire all the shares of WPD, one of the leading healthcare IT companies in Brazil. The transaction price will not be disclosed.

Christian Reinaudo, Agfa-Gevaert's CEO, noted; "It is an integral part of Agfa HealthCare's overall strategy to assist countries around the world in their challenge to streamline and develop cost effective healthcare systems, including the implementation of state-of-the-art Hospital and Clinical Information Systems.”

Growing faster than any European market, with almost 200 million people, Brazil offers significant growth opportunities in the healthcare IT business.

"Through this acquisition, Agfa HealthCare enters the Brazilian market for Hospital Information Systems. It allows the company to build further on its already strong market position in Brazil for both Imaging and IT systems for radiology," said Reinaudo.

Separately commenting, Luc Thijs, Agfa HealthCare's President said; "The acquisition of WPD will further accelerate Agfa's IT business in Brazil. It will allow the company to realize a faster go-to-market for its leading clinical information system ORBIS in Brazil."

Walter Amorim, President and Chief Executive Officer of WPD, commented: "The deep local market know-how of WPD, acquired over more than 20 years of serving a wide customer base, will perfectly combine with Agfa's European experience in Hospital and Clinical Information Systems.”

“The combination of Orbis Medical, already successfully deployed in about 900 institutions across continental Europe, together with WDP's IT solutions will create a brand-new, state-of-the art clinical information management system (CIS) providing Brazilian clinicians an all-encompassing view of medical information," said Amorim.

The Agfa-Gevaert Group develops, produces and distributes an extensive range of analog and digital imaging systems and IT solutions, mainly for the printing industry and the healthcare sector, as well as for specific industrial applications.

Agfa-Gevaert has three focused business groups: Agfa Graphics, Agfa HealthCare, and Agfa Materials. Agfa's headquarters and parent company are located in Mortsel, Belgium. The company has production facilities around the world, with the largest production and research centers in Belgium, the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and China.

Agfa is commercially active worldwide through more than 40 wholly-owned sales organizations. In countries where Agfa does not have its own sales organization, the market is served by a network of agents, distributors and representatives.
