SPE publication highlights that withdrawals up to $ 500 per account benefit the poorest and represent 0.58% of GDP
The Secretariat of Economic Policy of the Ministry of Economy (SPE / ME) released on Tuesday (20/8) a study on the regional impacts of the immediate withdrawal of the Guarantee of Service (FGTS) Fund . The publication highlights that withdrawals of up to $ 500 per account benefit the poorest and represent 0.58% of the country's GDP.
ME Economic Secretary Adolfo Sachsida stressed that immediate withdrawal solves a problem of misallocation: “We are giving back to the worker his money. He is having the freedom to choose where he wants to use his money. ”
Sachsida also recalled that this is the first time that funds have been released from the fund to about 96 million Brazilians, representing almost half of the country's population and that 81% of FGTS accounts have a balance of R $ 500 reais.
The study shows the importance that the measure will have in increasing family income of the poorest, especially in the North and Northeast, and highlights the number of workers benefited by federative unit.
According to Undersecretary of Macroeconomics, Vladimir Kuhl Teles, 37% of people today are negative for debts under R $ 500, according to data from the Credit Protection Service (SPC). “The percentage is equivalent to about 23 million Brazilians. Who has access to immediate withdrawal can clear your name, ”he said.
The text also highlights that the measure has the potential to release up to $ 40 billion in withdrawals by 2020, according to data from Caixa.
