Registrations Now Open for the Mercosur Science and Technology Award 2013

The Award is open to students and researchers from Brazil and all Mercosur member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela

On Tuesday (June 25), the Mercosur Science and Technology Specialized Meeting (RECyT) announced that the theme for the Science and Technology Award 2013 will be "Education for Science". Registration is now open and projects can be submitted until August 19 of this year, via the awards website.

The projects must, necessarily, be focused on the realities of the Mercosur and related to science education at the high school level or entry level scientific literacy in a school setting.

The Award is open to students and researchers from Brazil and all Mercosur member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Divided into the four categories listed below, awards go from high school level to doctorate.
Scientific Initiation - high school students under 21 years of age, with or without guidance from a teacher - Award: US$ 2,000.

University Student - university students (no age limit), with or without guidance from an academic advisor - Award: US$ 3,500.
Young Researcher - graduates up to 35 years - Award: US$ 5,000.
Integration - graduate research teams from at least two of the countries listed (no age limit) - Award: US$ 10,000.

The Award, created by RECyT, is sponsored by the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI/Brazil), the Venezuelan National Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation (ONCTI/Venezuela) and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI/Brazil), with support from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq/Brazil), the Competitive Brazil Movement (MBC), the Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, the National Council of Science and Technology of Paraguay and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay.
