Petrobras was doubly honored last night by Platts Global Energy Awards as the Energy Company of the Year and the Energy Producer of the Year. The company President, José Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo, received the award at a ceremony in New York, where the winners were announced.
Applauded by more than 100 executives from around the world, Gabrielli highlighted "the recognition that the company is treading the right path". Platts, a leading global energy and commodities information agency, reaffirmed the presence and advances made by Petrobras in energy and gas. Criteria such as technological innovation, environmental responsibility, efficiency and commitment to sustainability were evaluated.
The agency has presented the Platts Global Energy Awards for 12 years, with the aim of honoring energy companies for their performance and innovation.
For this year’s awards, 19 winners were chosen by an independent panel of international experts, including energy ministers, representatives from regulatory agencies, executives from prominent companies in the energy sector, legislators and academics.
Petrobras was also a finalist in the categories for Industry Leadership and CEO of the Year. The Company was awarded Oil and Gas Producer of the Year at the 2008 ceremony.
Global Energy Forum
Yesterday afternoon Gabrielli participated in the 5th Global Energy Outlook Forum, also organized by Platts. As guest of honor, he spoke of Petrobras' pioneering ultra deepwater operations and the development of the oil industry in Brazil.
Gabrielli highlighted the growing demand for energy in emerging markets such as Brazil, China and India, and the prospect for growth in these countries.
The Petrobras president also highlighted the importance of investments in energy efficiency and biofuels in building a sustainable future.
