Job market
Sector celebrates first positive result after 20 months of decline. Largest hirings were in rubber products, in plastic material and in the manufacture of articles of clothing and accessories
The industry of São Paulo opened 6.5 thousand jobs in January. This is the first positive result since April 2015, when 6,000 signings were made. The data are from the Federation of Industries of São Paulo (Fiesp).
Paulo Skaf, president of Fiesp, said the signs of recovery are still "tenuous", but can be celebrated. "We have to celebrate the first month with job creation after 20 months of negative movement," he said.
Among the segments observed by the survey, 15 hired, 3 became negative and 4 remained stable. "This data may be a sign that we are finally in a process of resuming the generation of jobs, which Brazil needs so much," Skaf said.
Segments that contracted the most in January
The sector was highlighted by the segment of rubber and plastic products, with an increase of 1,969 vacancies. The clothing and accessories manufacturing segment also performed well, with 1,742 jobs. The survey is conducted by Fiesp since 1981 and collects data from 3,010 selected companies.
