Government approves R $ 25 million for water main in Pernambuco

The Ministry of National Integration released, on Monday (10), R $ 25 million for the construction of the Aqueduct of the Wasteland, located in Pernambuco. Executed by the state government, the project will expand the water supply of the Integration Project of the São Francisco (PISF) in the state. The first phase of the work will benefit over 1.3 million people in 23 municipalities of Pernambuco.

The beginning of the Aqueduct of Agreste is located 256 km from the state capital, the city of Arcoverde (PE). The first phase is organized into five lots totaling 571 kilometers in length including water mains, reservoirs, water treatment plant, among other engineering structures.Currently, this step is 37% done, with 68% of the installed pipes.

In addition to this section, the Aqueduct of Agreste has three interconnections will ensure water for 14 municipalities of the 23 planned, they are: the Jatoba Basin in Tupanatinga (PE) and Ibimirim (PE) and adductor Moxotó. The step of Ibimirim (PE) guarantees a supply of the city of Arcoverde (PE), since 2015.

Through the interconnection Pipeline Moxotó, the water from the São Francisco Project will benefit the municipalities of Arcoverde, Fishing, Alagoinha, Sanharó, Belo Jardim, Sao Bento do A and Tacaimbó. With the delivery of PISF Eastern axis at the end of this year, the water of the Old Chico travel through the channels in the first quarter of 2017 to reach these seven cities in Pernambuco.

The other interconnection Pipeline of Agreste in Tupanatinga (PE) will allow the water supply in seven municipalities: Iati, Águas Belas, Itaíba, Tupanatinga, Buíque, Stone and Venturosa. The forecast is to complete the passage in December this year.

The Aqueduct of Agreste is considered a structuring project for ensuring the supply of water to Pernambuco because it will improve the population's quality of life with the distribution of water resources in the region that suffers from the highest rainfall of irregularity in the state. In all, the complete design of the Agreste Pipeline will serve 68 cities and will benefit more than two million. The work will also be connected to the Extension Agreste San Francisco Project, currently in the bidding stage by the federal government.

Water security for the Northeast

The two axes (north and east) of the São Francisco River Integration Project are 89.9% finalized. When completed, the project will ensure the regular supply of more than 12 million people in 390 cities in the states of Pernambuco, Ceará, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte. The East Axis will be completed in December this year as the North Axis will be delivered in 2017.
