Daniel Dias competes for the award of best athlete of the London Paralympic Games

Swimmer Daniel Dias may, once again, achieve a major title for Brazilian sport. On Monday (September 24), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced the athletes in the running for the title of best male athlete for the months of August and September, based on results at the London Paralympic Games.  The Brazilian swimmer Daniel Dias is one of six nominated competitors. The athlete is one of the beneficiaries of the Athlete Scholarship program run by the Ministry of Sports.

Daniel joined Brazilian Paralympic sporting history by winning six gold medals in London and becoming the most successful Brazilian Olympic medalist, with a total of 15 medals.

The other nominees for the award are the British athlete David Weir, Irish runner Jason Smyth, Australian swimmer Matt Cowdrey, Italian cyclist Alex Zanardi, and Japanese tennis player, Shingo Kunieda.

Voting will take place until next Tuesday (October 2) on the official website of the IPC http://www.paralympic.org/.
