Brazil hits record high on trade balance

Brazil closed 2015 with a record balance of trade balance. Data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services released on Monday (2) show that the country had a surplus of US $ 47.7 billion last year. This is the highest value since the beginning of the historical series in 1989.

Compared between last year and 2015, the trade balance in the blue still shows a strong advance. In the 12-month period, the balance increased by 142.3%. According to the portfolio, the result of the year was formed by the difference between exports of US $ 185.2 billion and imports of US $ 137.5 billion.

Year-to-date, exports of basic products fell 9.6% to US $ 79.160 billion. The other segments, however, advanced compared to 2015: semimanufactured sales grew 5.2% to US $ 27.963 billion; And manufactured goods increased 1.2%, reaching US $ 73.929 billion.

Among the semimanufactured products, the largest increases were in sales of raw sugar (+ 39.8%), gold in semi-manufactured form (+ 31.1%) and sawed wood (+ 17.4%).

Value Added Products

In the group of manufactured goods, the most significant advances were in oil extraction (+ 86.9%), passenger cars (+ 38.2%), cargo vehicles (+ 27.1%), refined sugar 23.2%), non-frozen orange juice (+ 9.5%) and airplanes (+ 6.0%).

In 2016, the main export destination countries were China (US $ 37.4 billion), the United States (US $ 23.2 billion), Argentina (US $ 13.4 billion), the Netherlands (US $ 10.3 million), Billion) and Germany ($ 4.9 billion).
