Brazil has 49 products with Provenance indication or designation of origin. Are items produced in a particular geographic region of the country, which are certified by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), at the request of associations, unions and cooperatives of local producers for the purposes of preferential tariff treatment granted.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which released the data on Thursday (20), and mong the certified products in the country are wine, coffee, meat, cachaça, grape, shrimp, cajuína, shoes , cheese and even information technology services.
Twenty states have regional products with certification. The Rio Grande do Sul leads the ranking with ten products, followed by Minas Gerais, with eight.
Valley of the Vineyards
The red and white wines and sparkling wines produced in the Valley of the Vineyards in Rio Grande do Sul, were the first to be certified with Provenance indication in the country in 2002. This means that only the wines produced in this region gaucho may bear the title wine Valley of the Vineyards.
The most recent certification was green, roasted and ground coffee Pinhal region, in São Paulo, on July 19, 2016.
