Seven thousand doses of the vaccine were available
Brazil has donated 7,000 doses of human anti-rabies vaccine provided by the Ministry of Health, in response to a request from the Haitian government, to Haiti in a humanitarian cooperation program coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC). Transportation to Port-au-Prince was funded by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
A similar operation had already occurred in 2017, when 15,000 doses of that vaccine were delivered to Haiti, which then recorded an increasing number of rabies cases with fatalities.
According to the Ministry of Health, Brazilian donations in humanitarian cooperation actions do not deprive Brazilians of the right to access medicines, intended for such initiatives only when there is no shortage in the priority service to national patients.
