Davos
Minister of Finance participated in the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. Reforms made by the government have generated "great interest" from international investors
The international "great interest" generated by the micro and macroeconomic reforms of the federal government, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, made Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles return to Brazil optimistic. He projects that the combination of foreign investments and state measures will make the country grow more.
The government's initial forecast is for GDP to grow 1% by 2017, a number that should be revised over the next few days, after a slowdown of about 3.5% last year. "Brazil will grow, this year 2017, and will grow more in the coming years, at rates higher than what was planned," he said.
In an interview with Portal Planalto, the finance minister said that the measures taken so far have generated an increase in the confidence of international investors in Brazil. "Brazil, in fact, was an object of great interest in Davos. This gives us confidence that Brazil will return to have a large volume of investments, "he said.
He explained that investors postponed projects in Brazil in recent years due to the political-economic scenario. Now, with institutional stabilization and measures to generate jobs and resume growth, these plans are starting to pick up.
Economic measures
In Meirelles's view, the improvement of the scenario for entrepreneurs and investors is possible because of the measures that have been taken by the government to reorganize the economy and make it more dynamic and less bureaucratic. As for example, the simplification of the system for opening and closing companies and credit for entrepreneurs.
"What is important is that Brazil is taking the necessary measures, expected a long time ago," he said. "The work being done is much more comprehensive than people understand at first. In short, Brazil will grow more, will generate more income for the population and a better standard of living in the future, "he argued.
