The proposal made by the Brazilian Government to create, with global coverage, the Goals of Sustainable Development (ODS) – in similar model to the Millennium Development Goals (ODM) – were, according to the Minister of Planning, Miriam Belchior, “well received” by the authorities participating in the meeting of the Committee of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in Uruguay, in the week of March 19.

“Although the proposal has been presented in a quick discussion, they received it very well, especially for the fact that it is not restricted to developing countries. The concern now is to define goals and give greater concreteness to it, so that the heads of State may help to assemble the ODS,” said Miriam Belchior to Agência Brasil.

The United Nations Conference on sustainable development (Rio + 20), planned for June, in Rio de Janeiro, also was on the agenda of discussions. “There is still concern both from the IDB [Inter-American Development Bank] and from other bodies, on how to finance the measures of sustainability,” concluded the Minister.
