Work highlights the importance of modernizing NRs for Brazilian companies and workers

Regulatory Standards

At a hearing in the Chamber of Deputies, tax auditor Fernando Gallego Dias explained the changes proposed by the government

Stimulating the competitiveness of Brazilian companies and ensuring the safety and health of workers in the country are the two main objectives of the process of modernization and simplification of Regulatory Standards (NRs). The topic was discussed on Thursday (15/8), in a public hearing in the House of Representatives.

Representative of the Special Secretariat for Social Security and Labor of the Ministry of Economy at the public hearing, Labor Auditor Fernando Gallego Dias explained that the modernization aims to make health and safety rules more objective, appropriate to the Brazilian factory park and less bureaucratic.

“There is a need for harmonization, simplification and less bureaucracy of standards while ensuring worker health and safety,” said the auditor. He recalled that the changes are being decided by consensus in a tripartite environment consisting of government representatives, workers and employers, and in line with international best practices in the area. "The reduction in the rates of accidents and occupational diseases is the desired end result," he said.

Review

To date, the texts of NR 1, which deals with the general health and safety provisions, and NR 12, on the safety at work with machinery and equipment, have been revised.

The prior inspection NR 2 has been revoked. At the end of July, other regulatory standards entered the public consultation process. Contributions to public consultation on labor standards may be made until August 30.
