On December 14, President Dilma Rousseff and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed cooperation agreements in the areas of defense, education and technology at the Kremlin in Moscow. Rousseff stated that cooperation in innovation is key to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and said she was positive with regard to the willingness expressed by Russia to participate in the Science without Borders program.

“Russia has huge accumulated knowledge in areas such as aeronautical engineering, oil and gas exploration, and mining. We want Brazilians to benefit from this knowledge, which will strengthen productive partnerships in our countries in the future. We determined the development of the cooperation program in science and technology for the 2012-2015 triennium, with expected joint actions in areas such as nanotechnology, biology, medicine, information technology and communications,” she said.

The president said that the delegation of more than 80 business people that accompanied her shows the commitment of Brazil to strengthen economic ties with Russia. Rousseff expressed her contentment to President Putin at the certification of Embraer aircraft for the local market and ordered the reinstatement of trade in pork meat between Brazil and Russia. The president also mentioned the partnership in culture, recalling that the state of Santa Catarina is home to the only school opened by the Bolshoi Ballet outside Russia.
